Vitória, where Naval Consult was founded
and where their head office is based, is the capital of
the Brazilian State of Espirito Santo. It is about 530
km north of Rio de Janeiro by road, and is located at
Lat. 20º19'00"S and Long. 40º17'00"W.
The
ports of Espirito Santo belongs to one of the most important
Brazilian port complexes, which moves each month up
to approximately 20 million metric tons of different
cargoes, and a monthly average of 210 ships entered
in their ports. This turns Espirito Santo, led by Vitória,
the first Brazilian Port Complex in tonnage and the
second in quantity of ships.
The
Vitória / Espirito Santo Complex comprises the
following ports, with the following basic characteristics,
which are mentioned hereunder in order to show the Naval
Consult's main operational area, and its capital importance
to Brazil:

· Vitória / Capuaba General Cargo Ports:
Four quays available at the Commercial
berth of Vitória and six quays available at the
Capuaba berth for general cargo/multipurpose ships of
242.00m length, 32.40m beam and 7.40m to 10.67m
max. drafts, fit for main commodities of coffee, steel
products, granite and marble blocks, grains, general cargoes
in bulk and in units, cars, containers, etc. |
· Paul Pig Iron Terminal:
One berth for loading pig iron,
available for ships of
242.00m length, 32.40m beam and 10.60m max.
draft. One shiploader fit for spout trimming. Pig iron
is loaded at a rate of about 8,000-10,000 MT/day. |
· Paul Oil Light Derived Products Terminal:
One berth available for discharging
oil light derivates. Fit for ships of 161.00m length,
27.00m beam and 8.23m draft. |
· Praia Mole Steel Products Terminal:
Three berths available for loading
steel products for ships of 300.00m length, 62.00m beam
and 13.50m max. draft. Fit with 5 gantry cranes of 42
MT SWL x 29m and 3 cranes 25 MT SWL x 25m. Maximum
loading rate about 10,000 MT/day/3 gangs. |
· Praia Mole Coal Terminal:
Two berths available for discharging
coal for ships of 300.00m length, 50.00m beam and 16.00m
max. draft. Fit with 2 gantry cranes of 50 MT SWL x 41m.
Discharging rate about 15,000 MT/day each crane. |
· Tubarão Iron Ore Terminal:
Three berths (piers) available for
loading iron ore, one of these berths is sometimes used
also for loading pig iron, and one berth for loading grain/soya
beans plus pellets/corn pig iron. They are for ships of
350.00 to 400.00m length, 55.00 to 62.00m beam and 15.20
to 20.00m max. draft. Shiploaders are capable to load
iron ore at a rate of about 8,000 MT/hr and 16,000 MT/hr
respectively, and the grain-loading rate is
1,500 MT/hr. |
· Tubarão Oil and Light Products Terminal:
One berth available for discharging
crude oil, diesel, kerosene, and other light products.
Fit for ships of 40,000 DWT, 210.00m length, 29.20m beam
and 11.20m max. draft. |
· Ponta Ubu Iron Ore Terminal:
Two berths (piers) available for
loading iron ore, one of these berths is sometimes used
also for discharge coal into trucks as well as eucalogs,
fit for ships of 204.00 to 308.00m length, 32.25 to 54.00m
beam and 13.00 to 16.00m max. draft. Only one shiploader
capable to load iron ore at a rate of about 6,000 MT/hr. |
· Portocel Woodpulp Port Terminal:
One berth available for loading
exclusively woodpulp and eucalogs. No shore cranes available.
Loading performed entirely by ship's gear, specialized
vessels load at a rate of about 350 MT/hr/gang and conventional
vessel at a rate of about 150 MT/hr/gang. |
